Eligibility

Unlike any earthly institution, criterion to enter a religious order is God's call. It is not in our hands. We may desire. But ultimately, it is God's decision and call that matters. Therefore, 'who can join?' is an open question. Answer may be: 'Anyone who has a Vocation to the Society of Jesus.

In fact Fr. Arrupe has an interesting writing on Vocation, where he states that if we think we are doing a favour by joining the Society, do not join. What he means is that it is not our merit that makes us eligible for this great call, but the grace of God.

If you have a smile on your face, courage in your heart and generosity in your nature, you are eligible to join us. If you are creative, daring and imaginative, you have a place in the Society. If you believe in equality, justice and an egalitarian future, you can join our fold. Above all, if you believe that in your weakness, God will perform miracles through you, you are welcome among us
