Migration, Ecology, Fundamentalism and
Community life
South Asian Assistancy met in the premier Jesuit
Management Institute, XLRI from 24 to 27 Oct
to discuss the core issues of Migration, Ecology,
Fundamentalism and Community life. It was a
follow up of G C 35 at the Assistancy level. There
were 125 delegates from all the Twenty Provinces
of the Assistancy. Our Province was represented
by Fr Provincial, M. K George, Jose Thachil,
John Francis and Jose Mathew. The meet was
inaugurated by Most Rev. Felix Toppo S.J, Bishop
of Jamshedpur at a solemn Mass in the evening
of 24 October. Fr Lisbert from Rome and all the
Provincials of the Assistancy were also present.
Delegates also came from South Asian countries of
Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan
Each of the topics had two presentations each and
there was plenty of time for group work. The attempt
was to see the connection among Displacement,

Ecology, Fundamentalism and Community life. The
three day consultation ended with a Draft statement.
It was sent to the ensuing JCSA meeting for final
approval. It is now up to the Provinces to work on it
based on the regional needs.
XLRI did a splendid job in hosting the meet.
The meeting was well organized and the entire
programme was appreciated by all. It was a very
enriching experience for all.
