society of jesus was founded by st. ignatius of loyola in the year 1541. it had a humble beginning when ignatius of loyola, francis xavier, peter faber and a few other friends vowed their loyalty to god in rome.

today, it is an international organization with 20,000 jesuits serving in 6 continents and 112 countries, all over the world.
