what do we do?
jesuit moto- all for the greater glory of god- determines what we do.
pope john paul ii, on sept. 2, 1983, delivered a homily to the 33rd general congregation of the jesuits. the ignatian spirit, he said, is a special charism that makes the society of jesus a privileged instrument of the church’s action at all levels. “intimate knowledge, strong love, and closer following of the lord,” he said, “are the soul of your vocation.”
jesuits work in whatever fields they are needed- be it education, social action, refugees, institutions, street apostolate, farming, cooking, etc. responding to the needs of the other is what jesuits cherish as their charism. st. ignatius insisted that the jesuit theologians of the council of trent should serve in the hospitals whenever they were free. jesuits follow this spirit in their lives.
in a globalized world, we combat homogenisation and policies of assimilation to remain dignified human beings. jesuits strive with the people of the world, to enable them to fight for their own rights, to open their eyes through education, to reach out to the marginalized and oppressed.
in kerala, our apostolate has three major thrusts: viz, education, counseling and spirituality, social action.
