The 7th National Adivasi Festival, Attappadi

The 7th National Adivasi Festival at Attappadi was celebrated with gaiety and pomp in AADI, Attappadi. Smt. Ratna Ramamoorthy presided over the inaugural function, and C V Rajesh Vaidyar from Mukkali inaugurated it. About 300 participants were there for seminar on the first day and over 1200 participated on the second day. There were adivasi representatives from Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Andhra, Pondicheri, North East and Kerala. Cultural performance went on till late night on the last day. Adivasi elders, practitioners of tribal medicine, and students who secured high marks in SSLC were honoured. Mr Christudas Gandhi, Ms Dayabhai, Fr Robert Athickal, Fr Rappai Poothokaran, Mr Sahadevan (writer), Ms. Swarnalatha (Irula Activist) were among the many dignitaries. Cultural troupes from various states presented programmes. AADI National Adivasi Mela has become one of the biggest festivals in Attappady and is unique by its very nature. Meticulous planning and execution by Fr Lenin Antony, Director, and his team made the festival a memorable one. AADI also conducted two Leadership Training programmes for about 150 students. A group of CLC members joined us for their three-day exposure programme under the guidance of Fr Lenin Antony.
